WWF-Japan have held a Squid Summit featuring this industry in Japan and the global supply chain on May 26th and 27th. The first day features on situations, from governance, and harvest to processing and market. The second day focuses on solutions and international collaboration.
I participated in a panel discussing in the second day, introducing WWF’s efforts and contributions in China on policy advocacy, including ratification of PSMA, revision and finalization of the Fishery Law, and a Green Finance policy requiring IUU exclusion, etc.
There is still a long way to go for the market to tranform for traceability and sustainability. We just started trying to identify the fragmented incentives and requirements, and to think about comprehensive solutions. Now it is not only about political willingness, but the balance between ecological and economic rules.
Let’s all keep hope at heart, openness at mind, and endeavors at hand.
I appreciate all support and facilitation from our colleagues in Japan. 👍
