I have been in Oslo for a week for a meeting with colleagues from the Norwegian, Indonesian, and African offices. This is to find synergies within the network to deliver a NORAD project that focuses on empowering civil society organizations (CSOs).
I co-facilitated a discussion session on green-blue finance. I “built a pyramid” for different workstreams.
1) On the ground, we should work with CSOs on specific aspects or industries. This can be beekeeping near mangroves or sustainable mud crab catch through the international supply chain.
2) Above the specific industrial sectors lie the individual financial institutions. We can empower them with appropriate tools so that they gain the capacity to identify the right projects to invest in. We can also
3) On the upper layer, we should work with financial policymakers or influencers on policies and standards. These include bank associations or central banks.
4) At the top of the pyramid is international collaboration, of which the most solid one can be a multi-jurisdictional common taxonomy. We have heard that a category of this kind may be launched at the next CoP of the Nairobi Convention. That can be a new entry point for our work, e.g., such guidance on green-blue finance for China’s investment in Africa.

In the icebreaking session on the first day, we played a mini-game where all participants lined up by the serving years in the organization. Now I am the second longest among all 27 participants. How time flies!
